Per our privacy policy, DuckDuckGo does not track you, ever. In order to improve the DuckDuckGo browser, we collect crash report data in specific scenarios. All crash report data is anonymous and cannot be tied back to you.
DuckDuckGo Preview crash reports
In DuckDuckGo Preview for Windows, diagnostic information is anonymously sent to DuckDuckGo in the event of a crash. This diagnostic information can include:
- What browser feature was in use at the time of the crash
- Your DuckDuckGo Preview version number
- Your Windows OS version
- How much memory the browser was using
- The time and date of the crash
While none of the above information is personally identifiable or associated with any individual identifiers such as an IP address or device ID, reports may incidentally include personal information, such as a username entered into a website or the URL of a page open at the time of the crash.
Early-startup crash reports
For crashes that occur immediately after launching DuckDuckGo, before our own crash reporting feature can initialize, we rely on Microsoft's Windows Error Reporting to send us information about the crash. We receive these reports only when an early-startup crash occurs, and only keep them during the time it takes us to debug the crash. By default, the information included in these reports is the minimum required to determine the cause of a crash, but can be configured to include additional information in Windows Settings. You can change the amount of data shared in crash reports by going to Windows Settings > Privacy & security > Diagnostics & feedback.
